Know Your Edge

Before you consider tuning your own edge it is important to know your edge.

Bottom Edge

The most common bottom edge angle is 1° and is set at the factory to provide a less 'catchy' ride.

Never file or grind the bottom edge (with Steezee Edge Tuner or any other file) as this will damage the edge and/or base. Keep the battle scars and memories.

Side Edge

This is the edge you will tune (grind) in order to re-establish a fresh edge.

The standard side edge angle is 89°.

Note: Racers will sometimes reduce the side angle to 88°.

Nominal Angle

Nominal edge angle is determined by adding side angle plus bottom angle (89° + 1° = 90°).

90° is by far the most common edge angle because it provides the most durable/lasting effective edge.

Note: Unless you are a racer, it is almost always best to keep a 90° edge tune, rather than making it more acute and less durable.

Restoring The Edge

As you carve through hard pack and ice... and hit the rails... and rocks... your edge becomes dull.

Unless you are riding pow all day, every day, a dull edge takes the joy out of carving and turns it into a sketchy ordeal.

A true edge is restored or maintained by grinding material from the side (never the bottom).

Edge life

Each tune removes edge material. To prolong edge life only remove as much as needed to create a true edge.

With care your edge will last many seasons and tunes.

Besides restoring a factory quality edge, the Steezee Edge Tuner can prolong your edge life by more precisely removing edge material.
